In The Aeroplane Over The Sea

Quite possibly one of the most influential records of our time. There’s already been enough said for this album and I doubt I’ll be adding anything new.
In The Aeroplane Over The Sea is rich with riveting songwriting and production as songwriter Jeff Mangum channels a youthful and energetic Bob Dylan. Tracks such as “Two Headed Boy” and “Holland, 1945” catch the intensity of this band’s incredibly distinct sound.
Although Neutral Milk Hotel’s songs were mostly written by Mangum, the band does a good job of allowing the project to function as a working band and not just a solo effort. On the title track, NMT make use of arguably one of the more interesting instruments on the record, the theremin. The haunting winds of “In The Aeroplane Over The Sea” take the song to new heights even Mangum I’m sure hadn’t considered. This is also credited to Rob Schneider of The Apples in Stereo for his distinct production style.
If you haven’t heard it, do yourself a favor and listen to In The Aeroplane Over the Sea in its entirety. It’s quite the experience, if I do say so myself.
